Tips for a fear free Halloween with you pup!

I know there's already plenty of Halloween advice floating around, but I can't resist adding my own two cents!

Halloween costumes are a human thing… our dogs didn't volunteer for this idea!

Some dogs are perfectly happy to play dress-up, while others would rather go in their birthday suit!

If dressing up your pup is important to you, start now! Introduce the costume slowly, at your dog's pace, pairing it with lots of yummy treats and positive experiences.

  • Start by placing the costume on the floor. Let your dog investigate it at their own pace, rewarding any curiosity!

  • Next, gently touch your dog with the costume, pairing it with yummy treats.

  • Gradually work up to putting it on for a few seconds, rewarding generously, then taking it off.

  • Slowly increase the time your dog wears it, keeping sessions short, positive, and fun!

Watch your dog's body language along the way. Freezing, backing away, or trying to remove the costume are all signs that your dog isn't comfortable.

And if your dog doesn’t love it? Skip it! Halloween should be fun for everyone!😊
