Muddy Dog Season š¾

The rainy season is quickly approachingā¦and you know the routine. Your dog comes through the door wet, muddy, and completely delighted with themselves. You grab the towelā¦and suddenly drying off becomes a full-contact sport.

Some dogs love a good towel rubāenter Tonka, who considers vigorous towel-drying one of life's great pleasures. Others have very strong opinions about having their feet, legs, bellyāor frankly any part of their soggy little bodyāwiped down.
Don't wait until you actually need these things to introduce them. You can introduce towels, raincoats, booties, and blow dryers slowly, at your dog's pace, with lots of positive, yummy associations along the way. Keep it short, keep it fun, and let your dog get comfortable before asking for a little more. Slow and steady!
And have you ever tried a Muddy Mitt? Slip it over your hand and wipe rather than wrestling with a giant towel. Some dogs find it less overwhelming, and you have a little more control over where all that mud ends up. Wellā¦in theory. It is still mud.
After especially wet adventures, pay a little extra attention to feet, between the toes, skin folds, and ears. Lingering moisture can contribute to irritated skin, yeast, and other problems.
A little proactive practice can make those soggy-day cleanups a whole lot easier.
Because the rain isn't going anywhere anytime soon! Ā ā
